    What the conference is about

How should goods be transported in and through the Alps in the future? How can regional distribution be improved? How can the effects on nature and the population be reduced? How do other Alpine regions solve their transport problems?

The Alps are located in the heart of Europe. This is where international, national and regional transports overlap in a confined area. The topography of the region presents major challenges in terms of logistics. At the same time, protecting the Alpine region and maintaining the quality of life must be a top priority for its population. The solution of these apparent conflicts of objectives can only be tackled in cooperation.

Logistics in the Alpine region is at a crossroads. The infrastructure was expanded to shift freight from road to rail. The technical solutions for a more efficient organisation of complex multi-modal processes are available. However, innovation in freight transport by rail have been relatively unsuccessful. New solutions for supplying remote Alpine valleys are not yet a reality either.

The aim of the Logistics Dialogue in Altdorf UR is to identify sustainable and efficient transport solutions for and through the Alpine region, to recognise the potential of existing innovations and to initiate joint implementation processes. For the first time, this event brings together actors from within civil society, political leaders from the Alpine regions as well as representatives from the logistics industry and regional development. In an innovative format, the participants are searching for transport solutions of the future.

Simultaneous interpretation into English for international participants will be available. Presentations, discussions and excursions are partly in English. Participation in the conference and the excursions is free of charge. Registration until September 9, 2018.

    Partners

The Logistics Dialogue is supported by three partners:

AlpInnoCT is a project co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund through the Interreg Alpine Space programme. AlpInnoCT’s aim is to drive forward technical innovations for combined transport and thus create the conditions to facilitate a shift to rail. The project also creates a space for dialogue between actors at regional, national and European level. AlpInnoCT involves 15 partners and over 50 observers from various stakeholder groups. The Cipra Lab GmbH / AT and the Alpine Initiative / CH are responsible for organising the dialogue events.

detranz – the innovation center for transport-efficient economic activities – positions itself as a politically independent institution with the vision of contributing to a decoupling of economic and traffic growth. This should provide an alternative to the common strategies for solving traffic problems. The center acts as a unique and Europe-wide platform for exchange, development and innovation and can thus contribute to strengthening Uri as a location for innovation.

iMONITRAF! Coordination Point is a cooperation between the regions affected by transit traffic in the Alpine region. The Coordination Point is the result of a successful European Interreg project. The goals of the Coordination Point are the development of a common monitoring system, the harmonization of existing measures, the development of a common modal shift policy and the analysis of and positioning on control instruments for freight transport in the Alpine region.
